Kiev City Council approves the programme "Kiev: Relations between Church and State in 2012–2015"
The decision aims at creating environment for ensuring the constitutional rights of Kiev residents for freedom of ideology and religion, protecting the rights of religious organisations, promoting morality and virtue.
“Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, is a cultural and spiritual centre of the nation. Almost 20 percent of all religious organisations in Ukraine have their centres and offices in Kiev. Therefore, the cooperation between the Kiev city government and religious organisations plays a vital role in overcoming prejudice, religious intolerance, inter-confessional differences and mistrust between religious groups, public authorities and the church,” said Chernovetskiy.
The city programme will be financed from the Kiev budget, as well as other legal sources.
The estimated amount of funds is 2.759 million.
