Leonid Chernovetskiy: "Thanks to UEFA Euro 2012, Kiev will a make a breakthrough in quality of life – in 2 years we will accomplish what normally takes 5–7 years"

Kiev has identified a list of streets in the area within 1.5 km around the National Sports Complex “Olimpiyskiy” that will require repair and replacement of the pavement. The budget will be 30 million hryvnias, with additional 131 million hryvnias allocated for the reconstruction of the Gorky Street.

The mayor of Kiev Leonid Chernovetskiy said that the city still has time to prepare the infrastructure for the championship. “The projects that are funded from the city budget do not require much time, so we will be able to meet the deadline. By 2012 the major roads to be used by the fans will be as good as in Europe. In addition, the city will increase its fleet of ground public transport. In particular, we will purchase 300 modern trolleybuses and buses with air-conditioning and low floors for easier access for people with disabilities. This is very important for us as at the end of the day, after the championship ends, Kiev will continue to enjoy good roads and transport. Thanks to UEFA Euro 2012, Kiev will a make a breakthrough in quality of life – in 2 years we will accomplish what normally takes 5–7 years,” said Chernovetskiy.
