Leonid Chernovetskiy Authored Ukraine's First Ever Law on Protection of Public Morality
Last week, in the first reading Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill to strengthen the fight against child pornography. Internet users will be required to report pornography-related information to law enforcement agencies, including information promoting violence and terrorism.
Incidentally, the first law of Ukraine “On Protection of Public Morality” was adopted back in 2003. It established the basic principles of the government regulation of media products that have a negative effect on public morality and banned the production and circulation of pornographic-related items.
The author of this law was a member of parliament Leonid Chernovetskiy. The parliament studied the bill for more than a year: it was registered on 11 November 2002 and adopted on 20 November 2003.
“All civilised countries have special regulations protecting the moral health of the people. Being a modern European state, Ukraine could not do without such laws. Note that no religion in the world, be it Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, etc., acknowledges pornography something normal but condemns it instead. The world’s religions form the basis of human valuesand morality, and you can’t argue with that,” says Leonid Chernovetskiy.
